As you know, Coach Dave Academy has partnered with Team 53 to bring you all your short oval setups and content for 5 particular series after you get out of rookies, which include the Advanced Legends, CARS Late Models, Advanced Legends, Tour Modified and the SK Modified Series. You can read more about that here.
But if you are new to oval racing or moving over from a road licence, you’ll need to start at the beginning and that comes in the form of either the Rookie Street Stocks or the Rookie Legends series. For the sake of this guide, we will only focus on the Rookie Street Stocks as we already have in-depth guides about the Street Stocks to better acquaint yourself.
Alongside the guides you will find linked in this article, Team 53 have provided four extensive and in-depth videos that follow the Rookie Street Stock calendar to help you better understand the car, the series and the do’s and dont’s which will ultimately help you get out of rookies.
Rookie Street Stock Series
The Rookie Street Stock series begins with a brief practice session, leading into a five-minute qualifying session. This grants you two flying laps for each driver to set their best times, which will then decide the grid order for the race.
The race runs over several laps rather than time, depending on the track each week, with the total race time taking around 15 minutes. Every race will be subject to realistic weather which can have an effect on the track condition and temperature, which will determine the level of grip out on the track.
As oval races don’t take place in the rain, every race in the Street Stock will be held in dry conditions but could be daytime or night which can affect braking markers and lap times. The key points:
- Races run for around 15 minutes
- Five-minute qualifying that grants two laps decides the grid position
- Cautions and Lucky Dog are disabled
- Each event is set to a realistic weather forecast
Rookie Street Stock Cost
The Rookie Street Stock Series features a calendar made up completely of free tracks, while the Panther Street Stock vehicle is also offered free of charge. This means that having a basic iRacing subscription will provide you with all the content you need to run the full season without any extra expenditure, although there are now three street stock cars available on the platform which you can read about in our new Casino and Eagle guide link.
The Street Stock Rookie Series has four tracks on rotation over the 12-week season, consisting of Charlotte Motor Speedway, Langley Speedway, USA International and Southern National, which are all free, so you can get to grips with these four tracks and start to build your iRating and Safety ratings whilst not spending a penny.
Getting Out Of Rookie Street Stocks
Depending on when you join the platform to begin your oval career on iRacing will determine which track you start your career in Rookie Street Stocks. Luckily for you Team 53 has you covered with some of the best video guides produced for each week of the calendar. Don’t worry if you miss a certain week either as the calendar is on rotation every 4 weeks. So you can just return to this guide and rewatch all of the videos again.
They cover things like how to deal with tyre heating, how to tackle qualifying, how to approach the race, which lines are best to take at each track and so on.
