LMU Lamborghini SC63 Guide & Setups – The Inside Line

Get on top of the Lamborghini SC63 In Le Mans Ultimate with this handy guide.

Lamborghini first announced their intention to enter top-level endurance racing in May 2022. Their SC63 hypercar is built according to LMDh regulations, which mandate a spec hybrid system, gearbox and one of four approved chassis suppliers.

Lamborghini entered WEC and IMSA in the 2024 season with one hypercar full-time in each series. The cars were operated by Iron Lynx, the Italian-based team embedded in Lamborghini’s GT3 programme.

In Le Mans Ultimate, this car is a part of the 2024 DLC pack 1 of the 2024 season pass. As with other hypercars, LMU accurately simulates the technical features and handling characteristics of the SC63.

Car Specifications & Key Features

In top-tier endurance racing, the WEC uses the term “Hypercar”, which includes two types of cars: LMDh and LMH.

  • LMDh cars (e.g., Porsche 963, BMW M Hybrid V8) use spec chassis and standardised hybrid systems, with rear-wheel drive and limited hybrid deployment (50 kw) for a capped total output of 500 kw (670 hp).
  • LMH cars (e.g., Ferrari 499P, Toyota GR010) are fully custom designs with greater hybrid capability (up to 200 kw), deploying power through the front axle only above 190 km/h.

Both types are balanced with the balance of performance adjustments to the same total power output.

The SC63 is built according to the LMDh rules with Ligier as the chassis partner. This decision sets Lamborghini apart from fellow Volkswagen Group member Porsche, who utilise a Multimatic chassis for the Porsche 963.

At the heart of the SC63 is a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, designed in-house by Lamborghini, and the standardised hybrid system. The entire powertrain delivers a combined output of 520 kw (670 hp), the maximum permitted under LMDh regulations.

Handling & Performance on Track

The car needs some setup work to extract the best out of it. The default setup for the SC63 has overly aggressive rear rotation, feels unstable and bounces too much over curbs.

There is some noticeable understeer mid-corner and over-rotation on exits if you’re not careful with the throttle or set traction control too low. The SC63 doesn’t like the bumps and is very sensitive to elevation changes.

Tyres are tricky to bring up to temperature, especially on a cold track. Medium tires take 3-4 laps to heat. Cold tires exacerbate understeer and bouncing.

Braking is mediocre. The Ferrari outbrakes the SC63 by a clear margin. The SC63 tends to lock its fronts under heavy braking, whereas the Ferrari can be pushed much harder into corners without locking up.

The SC63 is manageable during fuel-saving race stints. But it is difficult to trust this car for the all‑out mode in a sprint race or qualifying because of the twitchy rear.

Setup Recommendations for Optimal Performance

Here are a couple of quick fixes that helped tame aggressive rear rotation and bouncing over curbs:

  • Soften front and stiffen rear anti-roll bars to reduce over‑rotation
  • Less differential lock and more traction control for a more stable corner exit
  • Reduce rake and lower ride height to calm bouncing

Best Tracks for Lamborghini SC63 in Le Mans Ultimate

The features of this car are not ideal for circuits like Sebring, Imola or Portimao. However, even on these tracks, the SC63 can be competitive with the right setup.

Overall, the SC63 has the potential to be the fastest LMDh in the sim. Of course, this is subject to change as updates and balance patches roll out.

In real motorsport, Lamborghini had a difficult 2024 season. That season saw Lamborghini field three cars: one SC63 in Hypercar, and two Huracan GT3 in LMGT3. A second SC63 joined the grid at Le Mans to support the #63 car.

The Hypercar programme struggled with pace and reliability. The best finish was only 10th at Le Mans. In IMSA, the SC63’s best result was 7th at the 12 Hours of Sebring, while other races were affected by reliability problems.

After the season, Lamborghini announced its withdrawal from the WEC after just one season of full-time competition. The manufacturer will continue to compete in IMSA.

How It Compares to Other Cars in the Class

Two other hypercars in LMU are in the same ballpark in terms of driving style: Ferrari 499P and Cadillac V-Series.R. You can try them if you enjoy the SC63.

  • Cadillac V-Series (LMDh). With a 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V8, the Cadillac delivers brutal power but demands a lot in return. It’s hard to set up, and the car will spin easily with a suboptimal setup. However, once dialled in, it can be blisteringly fast.
  • Ferrari 499P (LMH). A turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 offers sharp performance with a unique feel. The Ferrari is quick and generally straightforward to set up, but it can be twitchy on throttle, especially in medium- and low-speed corners.

Final Verdict: Is the Lamborghini SC63 the Right Choice for You?

The SC63 is a difficult car with a lot of potential. If you don’t mind doing setup work for performance, this hypercar is for you.

ProsCons
Potential to be the fastest LMDh in LMUUnstable, overly aggressive rear rotation
Solid race paceDoesn’t like bumps and elevation changes
Demands hours of setup work

Wrapping Up

The Lamborghini SC63 is a demanding but rewarding choice in LMU. It is capable of a fast pace when tamed with a good setup. It’s not the easiest hypercar to master, but for those willing to put in the time, it offers a distinctive and competitive LMDh experience.
