iRacing’s GT3 Sprint Series by Simucube is one of the platform’s most popular places to go racing, so let’s learn about why it’s so loved and why it’s so unique!
Sending GT3s around some of the best tracks in the world, throwing in a mandatory pit stop over a 40-minute window? Here at Coach Dave Academy, we’d ask you to sign us up for iRacing’s GT3 Sprint Series by Simucube in a heartbeat. Why, you might ask? Well, let’s dive deeper into the Series and find out!
The Format
When you get your B license, you unlock GT sprint racing, everyone’s favourite type of sim racing for the last few years. The GT3 Sprint Series by Simucube is a great series offering great variety. Modelled after real-world GT3 sprint racing, this series features iRacing’s GT3 cars battling it out on some of the finest road courses in North America, Europe and Asia
Single Class Racing
Unlike the multiclass series, the GT3 Sprint Series features single-class racing, creating a level playing field where skill reigns supreme. Races are 40 minutes long, shorter than their endurance counterparts, but plenty of strategy and action packed into every lap.
BoP Plays a Part
A unique twist to the series lies in its Balance of Performance (BoP), which limits fuel tank capacity. This means you’ll need to make a mandatory pit stop for fuel before the race ends. But what about tyres? That’s where strategy comes into play.
Strategy Can Make or Break
When you pit, you face a critical decision:
- Take no tyres: Save precious seconds but risk losing grip in the closing stages.
- Take two tyres: Balance speed and stability for a calculated approach.
- Take all four tyres: Go aggressive, push harder, and fight through the field.
This layer of strategy is where the GT3 Sprint Series shines. With shorter race lengths but plenty of tactical options, the series offers a unique racing experience, blending speed with smart decision-making.
It’s Very Unique
The GT3 Sprint Series stands out because it perfectly balances intensity and accessibility. The 40-minute race duration is perfect for competitive racing without committing to endurance-length sessions. It’s a quick yet rewarding experience that doesn’t compromise on excitement.
The GT3 Cars
The GT3 class comprises ten cars, all complying with the FIA-specified GT3 regulations. The cars have relatively high downforce, ABS and traction control, with performance balanced by iRacing’s BoP system. Here’s the lineup:
- Acura NSX GT3 EVO 22
- Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO 2
- BMW M4 GT3
- Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R
- Ferrari 296 GT3
- Ford Mustang GT3
- Lamborghini Huracán GT3
- McLaren 720S GT3 EVO
- Mercedes-AMG GT3 2020
- Porsche 992 GT3 R
Each car brings strengths and challenges, with certain tracks favouring specific models. The Ferrari 296 GT3, for instance, is particularly popular, partly due to its inclusion in the one-make Ferrari GT Challenge series.
The car that seems to be one of the more popular is the Ferrari 296 GT3. This is due to its popular one-make, fixed-setup series – the Ferrari GT Challenge, which you can race with a D license.

What’s So Special About GT3?
The GT3 Sprint Series offers something unique in iRacing: longer, single-class races without the complexities of multiclass traffic. For example, the IMSA series runs alongside LMP2 cars and the European Sprint Series has GTEs, LMP2s and LMP1s, but this series is GT3 only – no need to worry about lapped traffic here!
No Multiclass Worries
Compared to other series that feature iRacing’s GT3s, the GT3 Sprint Series is a blend of the strategy battles that you see in IMSA iRacing Series, but without those pesky LMP2s that show up solely to ruin your day with a 4x and a meatball flag.
Variety of GT3s
With the variety in cars blending old with new and different engine layouts and locations, there’s something for everyone and every race requires its own set of unique know-how in setup to get the most out of every corner of every lap.
The GT3 Sprint Series follows iRacing’s standard 12-week schedule, bringing GT3 action to an impressive array of circuits. From iconic tracks like Le Mans to technical challenges like Winton, the series tests your skills across many circuits.
If You Want Even More GT3
For those craving an even greater challenge, the GT3 Endurance Series takes things to the next level. Held on weekends, this series features three-hour team races, where 2 or more drivers must maintain peak performance over marathon sessions.
Think a single 40-minute sprint is tough? Try keeping up that momentum over 4 and a half of them and helping your team come home as winners. If endurance racing is your passion, Coach Dave Academy has you covered with specialised setups for the GT3 Endurance Series.
